1. The bed is 5" wider and 50" longer than a standard sized mattress.
2. The desk under the stair end of the bed is 34" by mattress width plus 3".
3. The shelves under the head end of the bed are 18" by mattress width plus 3". The distance from these shelves to the edge of the desk is 42".
4. Stairs are located on the foot-end and span the total width of the bed as shown in the photo. The angle of the slope of the stairs is 35 degrees from vertical (55 degrees from horizontal)
5. An upper side board is 10" above the top of the platform and is 7" tall
6. The top of the platform surface is 59" above the floor. The head clearance under the platform is 57"
7. The bed assembles with bolts, featuring attractive smooth bronze heads where they are seen.
8. The bed is a platform configuration for use without box springs. The bed is configured for a mattress resting on slats. The space between the slats is 1.5".
9. A reinforcing rib is located below each of the 6 steps to strengthen the step and provides lateral strength.
10. The bed is sturdy enough to hold two normal size adults
11. This bed has hand rails on the stairs. The first 4 photos show the posts as being not parallel to the stairs. This design makes it easier for little ones to grasp the slats all the way to the floor. This decision is not standard, since adults are typically larger than the average child. All the other photos show parallel railings.

• Photos 1-4 are Maple finished with Tung Oil Cherry finished with Tung Oil.
• Photos 5-7 are Cherry wood finished with tongue oil, a combination that darkens over time into a warm color.
• Photos 7-10 are Cherry with Dark Walnut stain finished with Tung Oil.

This bed is only to be used with the intended mattress size. If you have a non-conventional mattress size, please contact us for customization.

For safe use of this bed:

• Do not allow children under 6 years of age to use the upper bunk.
• Use guardrails on both sides of the upper bunk.
• Prohibit horseplay on or under beds.
• Use ladder for entering or leaving upper bunk.
• If bed is to be placed next to a wall, the continuous guardrail that runs the length of the bed should be placed against the wall to prevent entrapment between the bed and the wall.

We use only solid hardwood sourced from forests in the Appalachian region of the United States. No veneers or compressed particle boards are used. High quality USA made plywood is used in drawer bottoms and cabinet backs and some interior drawer support structure. The wood that is not normally seen (such as mattress support slats) is a different hardwood species.

Our standard finish is Tung Oil. This creates a beautiful, highly durable and easy to maintain finish that brings out the natural character and unique grain patterns of our hardwoods. Our hardwood is from the forests in the Appalachian region of the United States that have been sustainably harvested for hundreds of years. Wood is a natural product and as a result grain patterns and variation in color and character in the wood are different in each piece of furniture and will not be an exact match with the listing photos. The unique color, grain and appearance are part of the unique one-of-a-kind qualities of your furniture.
