Details

We have a special lot of Heritage Oak slabs from California that are suitable for live edge dining tables, desks, mantles and other creative uses.

These Valley Oak slabs come from a massive 300+ year old Oak Tree that grew in Saratoga, California. Historic Valley Oak Trees are some of California's largest native Oaks, special not only for their of their size, beauty and history but also for their deep significance to Native American cultures and importance to ecosystems and wildlife.

Used as a gathering place by both Native American and Spanish explorers, this special tree was heavily damaged during a severe winter storm but was salvaged as slabs that can live on in your home. You could be sitting around a piece of history every time you sit down for a meal! The cross-sections of Valley Oaks reveal over 350 years North American history.

The live edge dining table shown in the photos 44" wide x 88" long x 29" floor to top. The top is made of two pieces of wood. The outsides are approximately parallel with live edge contours.  The line where the two pieces butt together is not parallel to the two sides due to characteristics of the wood.

We also have Walnut Live Edge Dining Tables available!

Custom Table Order Process

Because of the unique nature of this special lumber, each piece will be custom made to your specifications. Please contact us to start your table design!

To start your order, half of the table price plus half of shipping price will be paid with the order. The second half will be paid prior to shipping.  A photo of the finished table will be sent to customer prior to shipping.

The first step in creation will be selection of live edge wood for the table top.  The wood will be rough sawn so grain and color will not be visible. A photo of the selected wood will be sent to the customer to show the approximate shape. If the customer does not like it and an acceptable alternative is not found then the total payment made less $200 will be refunded and the order canceled.

The next step is planing and sanding the surface of the wood for the table top not yet cut to final shape.  A photo of this with water applied to look like Tung Oil will be sent to the customer.  If the customer does not like this then the total payment made less $800 will be refunded and the order canceled.

Build Quality

Our furniture is built to order using time-honored construction methods. We use solid American Hardwood as our primary material - no veneers or compressed particle boards are used. High quality plywood is only used in drawer bottoms, cabinet backs, and some interior support structure where it provides needed dimensional stability.

Our standard finish is un-stained wood finished with Tung Oil. This creates a highly durable and easy to maintain surface that brings out the natural character and unique grain patterns of our hardwoods.

For an added charge stain can be applied prior to the Tung Oil finish. More details can be found at our Finish Options and Stain Choices pages. The cost is shown in the drop down menu above.

Our hardwood is from the forests in the Appalachian region of the United States that have been harvested for hundreds of years. Hardwood is a natural product and has grain and color variations that make each piece of furniture unique. No piece is an exact match with the listing photos. The unique color, grain, and appearance are all part of the one-of-a-kind qualities of your furniture.

We are proud that the production and sale of our furniture supports the people and economy of the Appalachian region.
