This captain’s bed features 12 drawers under the bed: Six on one side and six on the other. For Queen and King sizes, each set of drawers will  take up 1/3 of the width of the bed. The remaining approximate 1/3 in the middle will be an open storage space that is accessed from the foot end of the bed. For the Full size, the length of the drawers are about 1/2 the width of the bed with no center storage area under the mattress. For the Twin size, we offer 6 drawers that run the full width of the bed, with no additional storage

Captain’s bed approximate dimensions:

1. The length for a Queen or King, including the shelf unit, is 97″
2. The width of a King size bed is 80″
3. The width of a Queen size bed is 64″
4. The sides and ends of the bed sit on the floor and are 21″ from the floor
5. The mattress base to the top of the support slats are 20″ from the floor
6. The height of the shelf unit is 65″ tall
7. The depth of the shelf unit is 12″ (this 12″ is included in the overall bed length of 97″)
8. The height of the drawer boxes for any of the bed sizes is about 7.25″ for the lower row and 6.25″ for the upper row.
9. The drawers are located on both sides of the bed and glide on steel ball bearing drawer slides. The drawers of the king size measure 22″ deep.
10. The bed is a platform configuration for use without a box spring. 20 hardwood slats are provided to support the mattress.
11. Drawer boxes are made from a light color hardwood such as Maple, Poplar or Bass
12. The drawer box bottoms are made of high quality 1/4″ plywood

This captain’s bed uses no veneers or compressed particle board other than high quality plywood in drawer bottoms and some interior drawer support structure. The wood that is not normally seen (such as for slats) is a different hardwood species.

Our standard finish is Tung Oil. This creates a beautiful, highly durable and easy to maintain finish that brings out the natural character and unique grain patterns of our hardwoods. Our hardwood is from the forests in the Appalachian region of the United States that have been sustainably harvested for hundreds of years. Wood is a natural product and as a result grain patterns and variation in color and character in the wood are different in each piece of furniture and will not be an exact match with the listing photos. The unique color, grain and appearance are part of the unique one-of-a-kind qualities of your furniture.
