This unique enclosed box bed is patterned on a historical box bed design originally intended to keep the sleeper warm and protected from cold drafts at night. In modern times people also love enclosed beds because they can be easily “put away” when not in use, keeping the bed clean and organized.

Box beds have a long history in many parts of the world, dating back as far as medieval times. For example, Scottish box beds were used in many house and cottage interiors through the cold and windy Scottish highlands and outer islands. The purpose of a box bed was to keep the sleepers warm, the bedding clean and well as to provide privacy and sometimes a room divider in small one room cottages.

Enclosed box bed approximate dimensions:

1. The outside dimensions are 6″ wider and 8″ longer than a standard sized mattress
2. Total height is 75″
3. The bottom of the mattress is 14″ from the floor
4. The Enclosed bed is a platform bed configuration for use without box springs
5. Doors are located on both long sides of the bed

No veneers or compressed particle boards are used. This bed is built from all solid American hardwood.

Our standard finish is un-stained wood finished with Tung Oil. This creates a beautiful, highly durable and easy to maintain finish that brings out the natural character and unique grain patterns of our hardwoods.

Our wood is from the forests in the Appalachian region of the United States that have been sustainably harvested for hundreds of years. Wood is a natural product and as a result grain patterns and variation in color and character in the wood are different in each piece of furniture and will not be an exact match with the listing photos. The unique color, grain and appearance are part of the unique one-of-a-kind qualities of your furniture.
